Glamour & Filth “the sex one”
Released September 2018
Now after “Elephants..” was finally released, by the beginning of the new year I already had a head start on writing new material that would be the next album.
The songs and mindset I was in at the time was I was writing and was being inspired by bands like The Cure, Love and Rockets and that late 80’s era of alternative music at the time when I was a late teen.
Which meant layers and layers of guitars (since my playing had gotten significantly better with recording on my own) synths and the through line with this type of music back then, it seemed was all about sex.
Essentially my goal this time was I wanted to make an album that was a mix of Prince’s “Purple Rain” and The Cure’s “Disintegration”.
Basically I wanted to make music for people to fuck to.
So each song was in that 80’s layered style, but the lyrics I was coming up with were all about erotic, kinky shit. Whether it was cumming from oral sex (Mouthbreed) pegging (Peg), prostitution or one night stands (Tools of Her Trade) cam/cybersex (Electric Scenes) you get the idea.
I also wanted to get back to having live drums, so I recruited my pal and drummer in the cover band I am also in Gary Sofko to not only play drums, but also mix the album with me, which was a great help and he plays his ass off on the tracks.
This one was an odd one for me only for the fact that it was released in September, but during the process I had finally gotten sober in March, but most of the songs were written as well as some recorded while I was still heavily in active addiction to alcohol. One track on here I wrote with my BFF JohnAlex his lyrics were recorded the night before a bad drunken night which was the night I decided to get help.
So it is bittersweet for me listening back, because I can still hear the pain and confusion in the songs, plus I was STILL singing into the IPad like the last one so the vocal recording sounds flat.
Yet the second release in a row where I love the songs, but sonically disappointed.
